finished up lyrics. For the visuals I’m thinking of starting with abstract SDF animated shapes. Then on top of the shapes I’m going to do a traditional animation layer using my new ipad and software like calipeg, animation desk, or rough animator to animate in an image of an owl every time the lyrics say “night owl” (5 times). I would pick a key frame from the generated SDF visuals and draw an owl over it using the background as a reference image. The animation would build into that frame.
The rough timing for the hand drawn animation would be:
Verse 1 - in 4 measures, hold 1 measure, out 2 measures @15fps - in ~84f, hold ~21f, out ~42f)
Verse 2 - in 4 measures, hold 1 measure, out 2 measures @15fps - in ~84f, hold ~21f, out ~42f)
Chorus1 - in 4 measures, hold 1 measure, out 2 measures @15fps - in ~84f, hold ~21f, out ~42f)
Chorus2 - in 4 measures, hold 1 measure, out 2 measures @15fps - in ~84f,
Verse 3 - in 4 measures, hold 1 measure, out 2 measures @15fps - in ~84f, hold ~21f, out ~42f)
If you look up cartoon owl eyes of owls on google there are distinctive features/motifs that tell you it’s an owl. Most important is the 2 circular eye. Most cases these eyes are completely round and multiple concentric circles within. The whites of the eyes are very pronounced with a highlight indicating reflection. Sometimes you see a doily pattern around the eyes that emphasize the size. The second most important feature of an owl is the beak. This is represented by a small triangular tab. With out the beak it’s unclear if you are looking at an owl or just googly eyes. The other prominent features are eyebrows. Actually this is a tuft of feathers. This is common in the Horned and Eagle Owl. Another minor typical design motif is the inclusion of breast feathers as if they are scales. Some illustrations depict this as almost like pineapple scales. Wings are usually depicted as tucked along the side. Rarely are there images of wings spread out or in flight.
